SUMMARY:Foothills Painters' American Flag Themed Art Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The Foothills Painters and the City of Morganton invite the public to attend an American Flag-themed art exhibition and opening reception on June 18 from 5PM to 7PM at Morganton City Hall\, 305 E. Union Street\, Suite #A100\, Morganton\, NC\, 28655. \nThe Foothills Painters were invited by the City to produce the exhibition in recognition of the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding. The artists’ works are wide-ranging in their depictions or interpretations of the American Flag theme. In their explorations of the theme\, the artists applied their unique talents\, vision\, and life experiences\, resulting in this multifaceted art exhibition that speaks to a wide audience. \nMore than 31 works in a variety of media\, including watercolor\, acrylic\, oil\, pastel and mixed media\, are represented in the show. The exhibiting artists include Andrew Atkin\, Anne Fredley\, Susan Grant\, Meredith Janssen\, Irina Khudyakov\, Karin Koval\, Martha Monica Lord\, Lonny McSherley\, Victoria Morales\, Donna Robinson\, Heidi Schoener\, Julie Stephan\, Chris Witherspoon\, Lee Woodard\, and Deb Yandow. Many of the works are available for sale. \nThe Thursday\, June 18 opening reception will take place on the same evening as the Third Thursday Art Crawl\, which is produced by Downtown Morganton and the Burke Arts Council. Attendees of the Art Crawl are invited to join the Foothills Painters reception and view the exhibition. Light refreshments will be provided by Morganton City Hall. \nThe exhibition opened on June 1 and will be on display at Morganton City Hall through July\, Monday-Friday\, 8AM-5PM. \nThe Foothills Painters is a group of regional artists with diverse backgrounds who work in a variety of media and styles. Demonstrating their collective artistic strengths\, the group has exhibited in many venues\, including Arts Culture Catawba\, Burke Arts Council\, Caldwell Arts\, Hickory Museum of Art\, and Hiddenite Arts Center. The individual members have shown their work in many other venues as well. \n

DESCRIPTION:Waldensian Presbyterian Church will host a Pancake Breakfast in support of the Valdese Police Department’s Operation Blue Santa!  \nFestivities will include Christmas photos\, games\, crafts\, carols\, special guests\, and cheer for all ages! Please join us for Christmas in July on Saturday\, July 18 2026\, from 8-11am.  \nTickets are available at the church office for $10. They will also be available at the door on the 18th for $15.  \nIn December your support will go directly to assisting a child (or children) from our community for the holiday season. Children will be treated to a special meal\, and then a shopping trip for essentials (like clothes and personal hygiene items) and gifts. Valdese police will accompany the children the whole time\, fostering stronger connections and relationships.

Prizes\, trophies\, and the potential to win the hole in one grand prize of a new car from Paramount Ford Hyundai of Valdese. \nBackground Info on Blue Santa: \nThe Blue Santa Program began in the 1970s when police officers in cities like Austin and San Antonio saw a need to help families who were struggling during the holidays. What began with delivering toys and food has grown into a nationwide tradition of community support and goodwill. \nIn Valdese\,  the program started with officers handing out candy canes and holiday cheer at local schools. Today\, it has expanded into a full experience — children in need are paired with officers for a special day of gift shopping\, choosing not only toys but also winter essentials like warm clothing. The day ends with a shared holiday meal and memories that last a lifetime. \n
