Fresh food, local farms, and strong communities will be celebrated across Catawba County during National Farmers Market Week, August 2–8, 2026. Residents are invited to visit their local farmers markets to support area farmers, purchase fresh seasonal produce, and experience the many benefits of buying local.

National Farmers Market Week is an annual celebration recognizing the important role farmers markets play in strengthening local economies, improving access to healthy foods, and connecting communities directly with the people who grow and produce their food.
“Our farmers markets are more than places to shop—they’re gathering places where neighbors connect, families learn about local agriculture, and small farms have the opportunity to thrive,” said Tarah Steele, manager of Newton Farmers Market. “Every purchase made at a farmers market stays close to home, supporting local farm families and helping build a stronger local food system.”
Visitors can expect a wide variety of locally grown fruits and vegetables, pasture-raised meats, fresh eggs, baked goods, honey, flowers, and other seasonal offerings. Each market features vendors who grow or produce their products, allowing shoppers to meet the people behind their food and learn more about how it is raised or grown.
Shopping at a local farmers market offers benefits that extend beyond fresh food. Every dollar spent supports local farms, creates economic opportunities for small businesses, preserves farmland, and keeps food dollars circulating within the local community. Farmers markets also provide valuable access to nutritious foods for families utilizing nutrition assistance programs, helping ensure fresh, healthy food is available to everyone.
Throughout National Farmers Market Week, residents are encouraged to visit one—or all four—of Catawba County’s farmers markets and discover the unique vendors, products, and community atmosphere each has to offer.
