Before you make your weekend plans, you might want to see what’s on the calendar.
There’s plenty happening over the next few days—and a couple of events coming up next week that are worth planning ahead for.
We’ll start with those.

Farm to Table Wine Dinner
Wednesday, September 30

Some evenings are worth making plans for ahead of time.
On Wednesday, September 30, Redbird Ridge Estate is hosting a Farm-to-Table Wine Dinner, bringing together great food, wine and a beautiful setting for a special evening. Proceeds will benefit Redbird Ridge Retreats non profit. Held in the gardens at Redbird Ridge Estate, private Chef James Diggs, Jr. is serving up an incredible 5-course meal using herbs and product from the estate’s gardens. Wine maker, Scott Barone, from Castello Barone Winery will be speaking to each wine paired with each course, Silent auction, live music, and more.
We’ve mentioned this one before, but now it’s almost here. If a farm-to-table dinner and wine sound like a pretty good way to spend a Wednesday evening, don’t wait too long to make those plans.
Classy & Camo Gala
Saturday, October 3

This one is about much more than dinner and dancing.
We recently had the opportunity to meet the people behind Foothills Veterans Helping Veterans, an all-volunteer nonprofit that helps local veterans with needs ranging from dental care and housing to transportation and more.
Their 2nd Annual Classy & Camo Gala happens Saturday, October 3, from 5:30–10 p.m. at Warehouse 18 in Hickory. It’s also the organization’s only fundraiser of the year, helping make that work possible throughout the year.
The evening includes dining and dancing, a cash bar and silent auction. Tickets are $75, and everyone is welcome.
Buzz Briefs
Christmas Is Coming. So Are the Savings.
Yes, we’re talking about Christmas in September—but there’s a good reason.
Discounted Early Bird tickets for the Hickory Christmas Show are on sale now. If the show is already part of your holiday plans, this is your chance to grab tickets early and save.
Saturday Is Apparently for Pancakes
Here’s an observance we can get behind: Saturday, September 26 is National Pancake Day.
We’re not saying you have to start your Saturday with pancakes before heading out for the day, but why not?
Well, This One Is Perfect
Saturday is also Johnny Appleseed Day, marking the September 26 birthday of John Chapman—the real nurseryman who became the Johnny Appleseed of American folklore.
And it happens to fall on the same weekend as the 42nd Annual Harvest Folk Festival at Murray’s Mill.
Apples. Harvest. Fall. The perfect combination.
