DESCRIPTION:Community square dances are attended by young and old\, couples and singles\, and anyone interested in getting out\, moving\, listening to live music\, and enjoying fellowship with others in the community.  Beginners are welcome\, and all dances are taught. \nWe invite people of all backgrounds and ages to enjoy an oral tradition passed down for hundreds of years. The Hickory Music Factory’s “Old Time String Band” and a dance caller will lead you throughout the evening. We will primarily draw upon the traditional social dances of America. \nJourney into the past and learn square dances\, step dances\, reels\, and other dance forms practiced in Southern Appalachia. These distinctive folk dances are the culmination of the many heritages that settled in this region. Folk dancing today is built on the European\, African American\, and Native American traditions of our past\, but they are very much alive in the present. \nYou can help bring them to life by attending this inter-generational dance. Children must be accompanied by an adult. A Ph.D. candidate at UC Santa Cruz\, Hyseni’s research focuses on understanding on the formation histories of asteroids\, comets\, and meteorites through spectroscopy analysis — and she even has an asteroid named after her!\n\nMs. Hyseni brought science to her community by establishing the nonprofit organization Astronomy Outreach of Kosovo in 2015. She is the founder of the Kosovo’s first observatory and planetarium\, featuring a Celestron C14 Edge HD telescope\, the largest telescope in Republic of Kosovo. Pranvera’s research achievements extend to her discovery of a Main Belt asteroid\, 2020 SS13\, by using data provided by PAN-STARRS in collaboration with the International Asteroid Search Collaboration.\n\nMs. Hyseni’s dedication to advancing science education\, outreach\, and astronomical research marks her as a notable figure in the scientific community. Highly regarded for her expertise\, she is in high demand at universities and international astronomy conferences worldwide. As a testament to her profound impact\, she serves as the Official Brand Ambassador for Celestron\, inspiring countless individuals with the wonders of the universe.
