Event:
Learn how to make a historical carry-all and the best grocery bag you’ll ever have! Known as “wallets” in the 18th century, these bags are rectangular with a central opening. Place items in either end of the bag, twist it in the middle, and you have two bags in one that easily balance on your shoulder. Learn to do running stitch, backstitch, felled seams, and a narrow hem.
Materials will be provided to make a historically accurate wallet. If you’d like to make a colorful, modern version instead, bring 1 yard of 100% cotton quilting fabric or medium-weight linen and matching thread. While this is a great beginner hand sewing project, the instructor will have a sewing machine available and participants are welcome to bring their own sewing machine if they wish.
Ages 13+, minors must be accompanied by an adult.
