It’s all right here.
One of my favorite things as a kid was reading Choose Your Own Adventure books. I loved getting to make a choice and then flipping to another page to find out where it would take me.
Turns out, I still like choosing my own adventures.
We’re so lucky to live in an area where we have so many choices right in our own backyard.
So, in the spirit of those books I loved as a kid, let’s choose our own adventure this weekend.
What are you in the mood for? Check out some of the following suggestions or scroll down to see the full event calendar for this weekend.
I Want to Get Outside
Start your morning wandering through one of our local farmers markets. Or forget about the schedule altogether and choose one of the parks we’ve added to Anytime Fun.
Pack a picnic, find a trail, take the kids to a playground, or just enjoy being outside.
I Want a Night Out
How about dinner and a show?
This weekend brings A Chorus Line, live music, Myra’s Friday Night Cruise-In and plenty of other reasons to get out of the house.
Or cheer on Lenoir-Rhyne as football returns Friday night.
I Want to Make Something
Feeling creative?
Saturday’s calendar includes a Toad Abode Pottery Class and a Fall Leaf Wind Chimes Class. You can also check out The Life of a Bag art exhibit.
Who knows? You might even come home with something worth displaying.
I Want a Little History
This weekend, Threads of the Past at Historic Fort Defiance gives you an opportunity to experience some local history.
Can’t make it Saturday? No problem.
We’ve also been adding museums, historical sites and other places to Anytime Fun that you can explore whenever it works for you.
Give Me Something Different
Okay, how about stomping some grapes?
WoodMill’s Annual Grape Stomp Festival is Saturday.
Not different enough?
There’s also a Michael Jackson Laser Show Saturday afternoon and an all-ages wrestling event on Sunday.
Choose that adventure!
I Don’t Want a Schedule at All
We’ve got an adventure for that, too.
Last week, we introduced Anytime Fun, and we’ve already been adding more places to explore.
The idea is simple:
Our calendar answers “What’s happening?”
Anytime Fun answers “What can we do?”
You’ll find parks, museums, historical sites and other attractions throughout Hickory and the surrounding area that you can enjoy on your own schedule.
And we’re just getting started.
So, which adventure will you choose?
Maybe it’s something on this weekend’s calendar. Maybe it’s a park you’ve never visited. Maybe you’ll catch a show, wander through a farmers market, explore a piece of local history—or combine a few of them and make an entire day of it.
Whatever you choose, you don’t have to travel far to have a great adventure.
It’s all right here.
Your weekend starts on the Buzz.
